"It works! Everything just balances out without having to do roll-overs or backups first like we did before, and it never crashes."
Tony Cavallaro - Administrative Director of Chesser chemicals and Barwon Cleaning Supplies
Chesser Chemicals and Barwon Cleaning Supplies
ABOUT THE COMPANY:
Chesser Chemicals is an Australian manufacturer and distributor of cleaning and sanitation products. Their manufacturing facilities and fully equipped laboratories in Adelaide are available for formulating and contract manufacturing. They cater to a wide variety of industries and specialise in toll blending. Chesser Chemicals has recently acquired another business, Barwon Cleaning Supplies, as part of its group and presently employ about 50 staff.
Tony Cavallaro recalls a time before their discovery of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, when their up-and-coming business went through 3 different systems during the rapid evolution of their business. One of the earliest systems they used was a DOS based program called ‘Business Manager’. They upgraded to Advanced Business Manager, on a Windows Operating platform, which seemed at first to be the ideal system for Chesser Chemicals, but in time it became evident that the manufacturing end of this system was not keeping up with their growing requirements.
WHY CHESSER CHEMICALS CHOOSE DYNAMICS NAV AS THEIR ERP SOLUTION:
Business processes were very labour-intensive in the early days for Chesser Chemicals, and much of it was done manually using spreadsheets. It was in 2005 that they discovered Microsoft Dynamics NAV, or Navision, as it was called then. When they first started researching this all-encompassing business system, they thought it would be too big for them, but perhaps they would grow into it one day.
“We looked a bit further down the road”, says Tony Cavallaro, “and realised that it would be best to get something that would see us through in the long run.” They made the choice to invest in their future, they chose Microsoft Dynamics Navision.
The company that initially installed Navision for Chesser Chemicals was not located in Adelaide but, at that time, had one of their software engineers living in Adelaide. The initial implementation and rollout was quite a task and a huge learning curve but the end result was worth it. There were industry and company specific modifications implemented that made life a lot easier for all at Chesser Chemicals.
WHY COMPUSOFT AUSTRALIA?
Moving forward a few years Chesser were ready to make a few more improvements to their software and decided to look around and consider other Microsoft partners to help them get the most out of their system.
By the time Chesser Chemicals found Compusoft Australia, they had already been through one Microsoft Dynamics NAV Partner and been in touch with a further two. Tony was concerned by the fact that Compusoft was located in New South Wales, far from their manufacturing facility in South Australia. There was always the apprehension that they might not be able to provide the personal service they had been striving so hard to find.
It was during the first consultation with Joe Cardinale and the Technical Director from Compusoft Australia, that the team from Chesser Chemicals really started to feel at ease. Tony recalls that during the meeting Compusoft was immediately able to answer yes or no to any queries we had regarding their changes and needs. Tony was so relieved to have a straight answer there and then. Tony further explains “It was the competence and knowledge of both Joe and the software engineer in the meeting at the same time that won us over.”
The transition period between the previous partner to Compusoft Australia was fast and painless. There were some fine-tuning to be done, which Compusoft handled with ease, and there were new modules freshly installed, integrated and configured for inventory control and manufacturing, especially the bill of materials section.
WHO USES THIS NAV SOLUTION?
Chesser Chemicals were so delighted with Microsoft Dynamics NAV, that when the time came to acquire a substantial interest in their second company, Barwon Cleaning Supplies, they had a fresh implementation of NAV 2009 installed. Barwon Cleaning is still happily running with their efficient Business Solution.
Both Chesser Chemicals and Barwon Cleaning Supplies like the way that it automatically adjusts to the specific legislations for their particular industry, such as the shipping of dangerous goods and the necessary weight conversions.
This is particularly important as there are members from a wide variety of departments including warehouse managers, administrative staff, production managers and even chemists accessing the system at the same time.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE KEY BENEFITS OF A NAV ERP SYSTEM?
When asked what he likes most about his Dynamics NAV system, Tony Cavallaro simply stated, “It Works! Everything just balances out without having to do ‘roll-overs’ and backups first like we did before and it never crashes.”
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR THIS CHESSER CHEMICALS AND COMPUSOFT AUSTRALIA?
Chesser Chemicals has big plans for the future of their Microsoft Dynamics NAV system, especially as far as mobility is concerned. They are currently in discussions with Compusoft Australia to create an upgrade that will allow their representatives to upload data while they are on the road and enter data for themselves no matter where they are without having the administrative staff do it for them. They have already scheduled workshops for, and are eager to begin their migration to the latest NAV 2013 R2 using a 2012 SQL Server.
